Janet E. Smith, M.D.
Janet Smith MD is the founder and president of North Central Urology since July 1993. Originally
from Primghar, IA, She received a BS degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, IA, in 1977
and an MD degree from the University of Iowa in 1981. Following a urology residency at the
University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, she did an endourology fellowship at the University of
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She practiced in Waterloo, IA for 5 years before moving to Sioux
She has specialized in the area of female and pediatric urology, is board certified by the
American Board of Urology, and is a member of the American Urological Association and the
North Central Section of the American Urological Association.
Patricia J Bultsma, CNP
Pat Bultsma has been with North Central Urology since 2001. She was born in Watertown, SD,
the youngest of 4 children. She was raised on a farm and tells her husband often that she would
have been a good farm wife as she love everything about the farm: new life in the spring, the
harvest in the fall, and everything in between. She always wanted to be a nurse. After graduating
from Webster High School. She worked as an RN for several years and then back to SDSU to
get her Master's as a nurse practitioner. She has worked in family practice and now in urology. I
love what I do and my goal is to make a life better. Pat has a wonderful husband, two beautiful
sons, a daughter-in-law, a granddaughter who is a miracle baby. She has a lot of things she
loves to do for fun-too many to mention and not enough time to do it all. She thanks God every
day for the blessings He has given to her and her goal is to serve Him wherever she can.
Rhonda - RN
Rhonda, RN, has been at the clinic since February 2008. She graduated from Presentation
College of Nursing in Aberdeen, worked for 20 years at St. Luke's in Aberdeen, and then worked
for 8 years at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, as an operating room nurse. She and her
husband of 40 years have 5 children and 13 grandchildren. Her hobbies include sewing and
spending time with family.
Nancy is the receptionist for the clinic, answering incoming calls and scheduling patients since
January 2007. Born and raised on a farm near Sioux Falls, she graduated from Tri-Valley high
school and worked at several jobs before working at Avera McKennan for 20 years. She is
married and has two daughters, a step-daughter, a step-son and two grandsons. She loves to
sew, garden, spend time with family and travel.
Spencer works with insurance claims, billing and computer support since January 2007. He was
born in St. Paul, MN, however, was raised mostly in Sioux Falls. He graduated from O'Gorman
high school and then attended SDSU and DSU. His hobbies include kickball, golf, watching
movies and listening to music.
MaryAnn does the transcription and works on the electronic health records. She also makes the
reminder calls for appointments. She was born in Fairfield, California and received a BA in
elementary education from Biola College in California. Since being trained in medical
transcription at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO, she has done transcription for over 20
years as well as working as an office manager in a medical office for 10 years. She enjoys
music, gardening, reading and shopping (especially bargains!)
